In a sudden burst of white and red, Kyuubey's head popped open like a pinata full of... marshmallows. Honestly, more shocking than the actual sudden headsplosion was the fact that the contents of said head were just more fluff. Ria sat, staring upon the remains in disbelief. The offer had been too good to be true, too entirely astonishing and utterly fun sounding to turn down. She'd already started thinking up all kinds of possibilities when she'd heard "magical girl". But now...
"It's too dangerous to do, I think, yes."
Avispa stepped out from the shadows, clearly already a magical girl herself. Her dress was green and black, accented with skulls as well as various puzzle-based bracelets, rings, and necklaces. Most notable, however, was the large skull she held in one hand with a gun barrel protruding from the end and wisps of smoke still trailing from it.
It wasn't just Ria, though, Avispa wasn't going to let anyone else suffer the same fate she'd been burdened with.
Ria blinked, surprised, amazed. As she opened her mouth to comment, to say it was "cool" or make any kind of excited remark... a rustling in the shadows and the approach of a very familiar entity gave her pause.
It was anyone's guess what a random invitation for tea was actually for when it came from a man like Aeolia Schenberg. The man had plans and plans for his plans. He planned for the future, planned for his plans for the future, and left plans upon plans to go with his plans and planned plans. Honestly, who really knew what "tea" meant.
But when Kanan stepped inside and saw nothing more than a tea set upon a table and Aeolia at the stovetop, perhaps it really was just tea? Before she could open her mouth to speak, he'd offered a warm welcome and an offering to sit which she gladly accepted.
Tea served alongside a traditional food staple of his, he sat down across from her with a soft smile and steepled fingers.
"No no no no wait no wait wait wait Nikkal, please, oh!"
It had been an astounding moment for both of them only a few hours earlier. Destroying imps, pointing at things they found funny (simple thrills, right?), and just having fun despite any dangers. But then they'd found it. A small box containing something they'd both never seen before. Something utterly foreign and shocking to them.
"Jenga."
With her fingers around the wooden piece, Nikkal was ever-so-slowly sliding it from the very center of the terrifying, precariously stacked structure. With a wide grin on her face and not a doubt in her mind, she pulled sharply and the piece slid free.
Wobble.
Wobble.
Wobble.
But the tower remained standing.
Slowly, Avispa reached for the tower. "No no no no" she was softly muttering, staring in awe at the puzzling reality that the tower hadn't toppled. Her fingers set upon one of the wooden pieces, carefully but...
Well it wasn't his fault. They'd been exploring the Witch's lair for hours and when they'd finally stumbled upon a room with things in it, it was food of all things. Even if they didn't need the food, the temptation was too great. And now they were running, from the Witch, following the path on the map that Phylus had so brillaintly prepared. The witch's lair was like a complex puzzle, but with their skills combined they weren't having any problems at all with it.
They were just having problems with running from the witch. Neither Avispa nor Phylus wanted to turn around and fight when death was so close on their heels. This was about surviving.
"Throw the food, yes!"
...and throw the food Phylus did, and lodged in the Witch's nose did it become. As tempting as it was to laugh, they both spun around and with a sudden branch-skull combo attack the Witch burst into thousands of itty bitty candies.
There was nothing better, honestly, than flying through the air just to pass the time, just to relax, just to have some fun. Admittedly, there had been no need for the two of them to be flying along after a simple grocery run but neither Esp nor Akiko could complain.
Several clouds met their end as Esp sailed through them, at least until Akiko gave him a little bonk on the head to get him back on track. With a proud flap of his wings, they both descended back to the earth, back home.
As they landed, and Esp shifted back to being human, Akiko rewarded him with a kiss on the lips and a small laugh. "I ll have to make something special tonight as thanks, hmm?"
Blipping into existence, Avispa grinned wide as she stepped upon new, unfamiliar ground. She'd made a number of little gadgets, a number of little creations that she'd wanted to use and this one had teleported her right to the world of an ally. Kalfour, specifically. His symbol had appeared on the surface of her teleporter and she hadn't hesitated in using it.
What she hadn't expected, however, was that she'd teleport and land right in front of him. Surely, he couldn't have been expecting a jadeblood to just appear out of nowhere, and his reaction proved it. It didn't matter, though, because Avispa didn't look at all threatening and instead of acknowledging the awkward silence that was threatening to fall, she just smiled wide and waved her hand at him happily. "Hello there Kalfour, yes?"
Gawking would be the correct term for what Kal was doing. He'd scrambled for a moment, mentally, on what to do; but she'd spoken first. Relaxing only slightly, though he remained mostly tense with a slight pounding in his head, he blinked his eye at her and asked a question that he was sure he already knew the answer to: "Avispa, right?"
"And this one-- Avispa." Zurahe sat, pointing at an image in a rather questionable book "'Vispa pay attention."
"But um, Zurahe look!" Avispa pleaded, trying to point at another place in the book, at another section that didn't even have any trolls in it. "Look look look, yes!"
With a light bop on the head, Avispa blinked multiple times before focusing again. Zurahe had been trying for the better part of an hour to get the girl to actually learn something. She'd managed to pick up moiraillegiance in a few moments, she'd even grasped the concept of auspicism after a few moments, but now that she was trying her hand at kismesissitude and matespritship? Avispa's head was so far in the clouds that it was utterly impossible to bring her back to this little teaching session.
"Look, study it yourself." Zurahe sighed, pushing the book towards Avispa. "I'll quiz you later."
"Oh, um, a quiz!" Avispa beamed, smiling. "Those have problems, puzzles!"
Even in light of recent events, specifically team Plasma simply being batshit out of their minds, it was easy to sit back, relax, and solve puzzles. Avispa had a peculiar preference for having picnics, regularly, with all of her Pokemon. While it wasn't uncommon for trainers to have their Pokemon out, it was uncommon for her to keep her Pokemon contained.
She leaned back, resting against her Metagross. Considering its size and sturdiness it had no issue with it. Sitting, heavily, upon the ground, her Metagross seemed all too pleased with sunbathing, of all things.
At either side of her, nestled against her legs, were her Beedrill and Vespiquen. Both Pokemon had seemingly tired of buzzing about and were resting quite pleasantly. Nearby, keeping a watchful eye, was her ever-working Absol. Never once was a detail overlooked, a risk unassesed, or a danger ignored; though that didn't mean that a head scratch or treat would go unaccepted.
The remaining two were an oddity, even to her. They honestly were different Pokemon every time she interacted with them, but they always possessed a strong loyalty and friendliness towards her. The first, a Porygon, and the second, an Unown, were both never near and never far. Oddly enough, like her Metagross, they never ate a thing.
Smiling, she sat while nibbling at toast with a few dabs of honey on it (her favorite) until a surprisingly familiar set of Pokemon settled nearby, earning a confused glance from her and a wary eye from her Absol. A Skarmory and a Braviary, both with wings outstretched before they settled, we're accompanied by a very familiar trainer.
"Hello Zurahe, you have really good timing, yes!"
"Let me guess, puzzles?" Zurahe couldn't help a little eye roll as Avispa's features lit up with momentary surprise, though it was replaced by a moment of confusion as a certain Unown accidentally nudged against her arm in pursuit of a certain Porygon. "Alright, what's the puzzle this time?"
"It's a battle puzzle, yes! In two parts!"
Battle. That was a new one for Avispa. Normally she'd be the one asking "let's see what you can do" before pummeling at least one of the puzzle girl's Pokemon into the dirt. But how on earth was a battle a puzzle? Something was up. Couldn't hurt to humor her, though, given the girl's enthusiasm. With a nod that showed only the slightest hesitation, she waited for the explanation.
"Well, um, you need two Pokemon first, yes" slowly, Avispa was rising to her feet, smiling wide. "and one for the second part, I think!"
"What for?"
"First, a double battle!" Avispa seemed all too happy with the proclamation before she continued on, explaining. "Then, a team battle! Me and you, Zurahe! Versus anyone, I think."
There were only a million ways this could go wrong, really. Avispa starting battles, leading them against others, actually willingly standing up to partake in battles... Maybe something was rubbing off on the girl. Zurahe had shown up to battle, sure, but now that Avispa had brought it up she was doing her best to not seem too overly pleased by it. The last thing she needed was the girl pleading for the two of them to go out on some grand adventure. In any event, she had to choose.
"Alright, Avispa. Tell you what. I'll pick my two first, and we'll do this." Oops, there was the smirk. She couldn't hide it, especially not when she threw forth two pokeballs and released her Meloetta and Escavalier upon the field. A dangerous combination, really. She knew how powerful the two were apart, and now she was going to show off how well they worked together. The awed expression that Avispa was making only bolstered her confidence in the choices.
Swiftly, Unown and Porygon floated around and took stances in front of Avispa. She hadn't said a word and instead of commenting, just beamed happily at her two Pokemon. "Oh, um, okay sure!"
"Avispa."
"That's me-- oh I mean, hello Zurahe, hi?"
"Actually choose your Pokemon, Avispa, don't let them choose for you." Zurahe corrected, mentally facepalming at the girl's inaction and reaction.
At that, Avispa blinked a few times before nodding and glancing around. Surprisingly swiftly, for Avispa, she turned back and smiled wide. "Metagross. Vespiquen!"
Bad. Very bad. The last time she'd seen the girl's Metagross it hadn't been one. She'd honestly been impressed initially that Avispa had taken on such a potentially powerful and massively complicated Pokemon, but in the end she had made it work. Now, here, she had to fight the thing... Plus the buzzing queen that Avispa had taken a liking to from the start. This wouldn't be an easy fight for either of them.
An easy fight it wasn't. Metagross could take a beating and give it right back, Vespiquen had a particular knack for hitting vitals, delivering debilitating ailments, and above all else dodging hits. Meanwhile, Escavalier performed much like Metagross, dealing out hits and taking them while Meloetta danced and sang, strengthening herself as well as Escavalier. Compared to earlier battles that the two had engaged in, this one was a first. Neither side was at a clear advantage and neither side could seem to turn the tides in their favor.
Eventually, Zurahe held up a hand and couldn't help but laugh. It wasn't a mocking laugh in any way, but instead it was a pleased, happy laugh. Of all the things she'd expected today, fighting Avispa to a stalemate wasn't one of them. "You did good, Avispa."
"Oh oh oh oh did I really, maybe?" the girl was hopping up and down, all too happy that she hadn't been defeated. "Yay, yes, yay yay yay; and good job!" and then she was hugging her Pokemon, seemingly imparting some of her happiness upon them as well. She was entirely, utterly, happy.
Zurahe allowed the girl her time to jump around and took the time to tend to her own Pokemon, a smile on her face. Everyone had done well, there was no disappointment. Only a bit of pride. Who'd have thought that a little girl with a Combee and unlimited optimism could get so far? Not without help, of course, but she'd never own up to having helped the girl at all. Never in a million years.
But then there was that one thing, that thing that Avispa had mentioned. The second part of the "puzzle", and considering the look on the girl's face, it was time for that. With a grin, she glanced to her Skarmory that had busied itself with tormenting pidgeys and readied herself. Avispa, still so very excited, had motioned her Absol closer. "Are you ready, maybe?"
"Waiting' on you, slowpoke. Let's go pummel somebody."
That afternoon, over seven dozen confused trainers rushed their Pokemon to the Pokemon center. Not a single one among them would forget the two responsible for the surprise.

Sig - Zurahe & Avispa - Pokemon AU Trainer Battle
